Definately a senior art director's Lid. Nice crafting.

He's remarkably good-looking for a middle-aged woman.

I hear he turned down the gig at Tony & Guy, shame really.

Don't be so harsh, kids.

It's entirely understandable that after a few years freelancing, you'd leave advertising altogether to work at McCanns.

I saw that haircut last week on Billabong Odyssey

Hey Chris? Why the long face?

I hear the client wanted him to make it longer.

He'll have to get used to that kind of comment at McCanns.

Oh, and not wearing the devil's denim either.

What's their policy on tight buttoned shirts?

I'd presume it's strongly encouraged.

Poor bugger.

Sticks out a press release and he's abused for his haircut, his face, his shirt and the agencies he's worked in.

Guess that's the Campign Brief blog in all its glory.

But no one has mentioned the absence of top lip

Don't know why people bother PRing themselves in here. If you cured cancer and sent out a press release to that effect, you'd still get torn apart by the advertising community.

Still, if you PR your new job at McCanns, then you're probably asking for it.

5:20 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

That's what happens when you PR yourself on a slow news day. Lynchy, some new material to work with tomorrow please.

What about Saatchis losing Westpac.

Didn't see that one on the fucking blog eh?

Bias? Nah.

3 in a fucking row Nobby.

Don't want to be a prick or anything but he lauds the fact that when he was at JWT 'Simon Collins was ECD.'

Did a few Kellogs ads then did you eh?

Oh well, you win some (awards), you lose some (business).

Yeah, let's nibble Nobby's nuts.

What I want to read about is the story of the moment, even if it is a few rows down: Why did Mick and Ian leave JWT? The real story, not the assumptions. Let see if Lynchy surprises with a bit of investigative journalism and sheds some light in which seems to be the biggie of the month.

8.00pm: that's terrible. Were you watching that repeat 20-1 countdown of the best ads of all time last night?

Speaking of which, how the fuck did Qantas get #1

What a load of crap.

10:06 AM

And did anyone read the super over the Yellow Pages spot that said the talent wrot the line 'Not happy Jan'. But then, it's not as if the line made the ad famous.

Who is he teaming up with? Have they got anyone left at McCann's for him to work with?

And leave the personal slating at home - it's not appropriate for a blog you wankers.

On the contrary, it's the best place for it. If you can't take it, get off the blog.

Where was 'Pea Bo' in last night's jingle fest?

12:36 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Qantas was there last night as Singo was involved, AFL as Eddie was involved, Petit Miam as the footy show did a version, etc...An exercise in reverse branded-content. Instead of Advertisers creating a TV show a TV network 'creates' a show using ads. Cheaper than making an actual show from scratch and easy to invoke viewer loyalty through nostalgic jingles and patriotic australiana. There was no attempt to demonstrate how these were the 'top 20'.

11:24. Are you serious? Have you ever read any of this blog before?

so,

what's wrong with Mccann?

1:57 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Yes, I'm not saying they're not great ads but the show didn't demonstrate how they arrived at that list. I'd like to know.

Singo was obviously one of the advisers to the producers at Nine. That's why his beloved Razzamatazz is there, as well as Tip Top and might explain why Qantas is #1. But that's the most even he could get away with.

But Singo, like a lot of us, admires Mo & Jo which might explain a good dose of their best, including Tooheys, Meadow Lea and World Series Cricket.

The Palace have far fewer than they deserve and four big ommissions were Antz Pantz 'Sic em Rex', Holeproof Computer Socks 'Isaac Newton', No Knickers 'Piano' and Dunlop 'Aircraft Carrier'. (Nine could have filled an entire Top 20 with their ads).

OTC 'Memories' from Patts, Vision 'Saucepan' from Gough Waterhouse and DHL 'Budgie' from Saatchi's were three others that should have made the list.

Toyota 'Bugger' shouldn't have been included because of course it's a Kiwi classic and neither should the pommie spot for Cussons Imperial Leather.

I think the Hoover - 'That's why Hoover is ahead of the rest' series of ads, along with the Thin's - not as thick as some ads too.

Oh and Big M!

Other goodies include Apple 'Aligators', AMLC 'Liferaft', Rice 'Sculptures', Smiths Lites 'Ballerinas', Yellow Pages 'Goggomobil', Milk 'Legendary Stuff', RSPCA 'All Creatures Great and Small, John West 'Underwater Restaurant', Mum 'Every girl needs her Mum', UV 'Black Men', (early) Castrol 'Oils aint Oils', (early) Commonwealth Bank 'Which Bank?', Cat Chow 'Canary', Nike 'Roo Boy', Rabbit Photos 'Shark', Kit-Kat 'Baby'....there's been a lot of great stuff over the years.

Hi,

If Chris' hair was red and he was wearing a blue jump suit with a large "S" on the front, he'd be a deadringer for the villain in the Incredibles. Personally, he was my favourite character.

Wasn't Roo Boy done at Weiden & Kennedy Portland?

Big Ad should have been No.1. I got tingles seeing it again last night!

Antz Pantz should have been in for sure. An 80's ad that wasn't a jingle. And what about Siiiiiimon's AIDS ad?

I already had RSPCA 'All Creatures' on the list... Sean's finest hour (with Cesare Leonardi and Kaye Schirman) in the good old days at Leonardi & Curtis, Melbourne, circa 1987.

It couldn't have been Sean who wrote that, the appostrophe should be after Cummins, not before the 's'.
